In the dynamic landscape of retail and consumer engagement, Sobey's faced a monumental task: relaunching their iOS, Android native apps, and responsive websites in sync with the introduction of a new points program in partnership with Scene. This challenge was amplified by the need to ensure a simultaneous launch across all eight of their sub-brands and one brand partnership, totaling 16 native apps and 8 responsive websites. As the driving force behind this project, my role was to construct a design operations methodology capable of meeting this ambitious deadline.
Stepping into the role of a design leader, I was tasked with overseeing the UX, UI, and development teams. Recognizing the enormity of the task with limited resources, I spearheaded the development of a creative and multi-level design system. This system was the cornerstone of our strategy, enabling scalability across the entire project with just one UX designer and one UI designer. This innovative approach not only streamlined our design process but also propelled us to complete our milestones well ahead of the development sprints. This efficiency afforded us the luxury of time, which we utilized to enhance the user experience with micro-interactions and animations, adding a layer of sophistication and engagement to the platforms.
The results of this meticulously planned and executed strategy were nothing short of remarkable. Upon launch, the apps achieved a stellar 4.4-star rating in the App Store, amassing thousands of downloads and securing a top 10 position in the food and drink category. The satisfaction of Sobey's and Scene with the project's outcome was a testament to the effectiveness of our approach. Furthermore, this project served as a catalyst for a transformative workflow within the team, setting a new standard for efficiency and creativity in future projects.A key aspect of this project's success was my close and continuous engagement with stakeholders. Building and sustaining their trust was paramount, and it was achieved through transparent communication, regular updates, and incorporating their feedback throughout the project lifecycle. My hands-on involvement with the design, development, and project teams ensured a cohesive effort, aligning all parties towards our common goal.
The Sobey's project not only marked a significant milestone in digital retailing but also underscored my ability to lead complex projects with innovation and strategic foresight. This experience has been instrumental in honing my skills and readiness for roles such as a creative director or design director, where I can continue to drive impactful digital transformations.
